What do I do?
Hello, my name is Quentin, and I am a Product Designer with a background in Landscape Design. I want to impact a forward-thinking business, not scared of experimenting and true to its values.
What problems do I solve?
When people asked for a design, they asked us to solve spatial issues for them: sloping terrain, narrow lots, limited space and poor drainage, to mention a few. As I observed, the actual problem often lay elsewhere. As a landscape designer, I was not selling gardens. My clients enjoyed a tranquil, green space that expanded their home life. That was the real value: peace of mind.
But yes, in other words, I was selling gardens.
How do I approach problem solving? For whom?
Having the big picture in mind and looking for the actual challenge for the client, "the thing." I realized that we could impact systems by not being so focused on what we make. In my previous company, I started making better designs when I focused on everything else. The irony, I know.
What inspires me to do great work?
My inspiration is my mum. She worked in France's very male-dominated corporate banking system. She worked so hard to provide for our family and showed how consistency, hard work and honesty could help people in any situation. She's a great role model who instilled the same professional values in me. A bit cheesy isn't it?
What value can I offer?
I’m a relentless information seeker. If something needs to be uncovered, I will do everything I can to discover the missing data. They call me Inspecteur Clouseau. My second most valuable contribution is an egoless attitude in your team. Designing is nothing personal because the product comes first. My ego can cry me a river at home later!
What do I bring to the table that no one else can?
While everyone brings their uniqueness, my multi-professional background, explorative mindset, and big picture thinking help me connect business goals to clients' needs.
In my landscape design career, this meant connecting the broader strategy for creating green spaces throughout cities with the usability and desirability of the spaces as they serve people.
your turn 🤞
